I came to Florida International University to pursue a dual degree in Business Administration with concentrations in Finance and Marketing; what I graduated with was beyond just a degree. Becoming a proud sister of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority positively impacted my life in so many ways and was the foundation for the experiences that I am thankful to have graduated with today. By far, the greatest opportunity I was given was the position of Team Captain for Relay for Life, not only because of the deep significance of the event, but because I was introduced to a small group of gentlemen that encompassed the true meaning of brotherhood in every sense of the word. With each minute spent with them, I grew fonder as I learned each one of their stories and could not help but be drawn to the immense heart and spirit that each one had for their fraternity. While each one being so different, their motivation to make a difference within the university and the community bonded them together and I knew would undoubtedly lead them to success as individuals and as a chapter.
The experiences that I have shared with this amazing group of gentlemen since then have been more meaningful than I could have ever imagined. Watching a group of eleven strangers become a brotherhood of forty-one has been an honor in itself. Through hard work, dedication, and friendship I have been proud to watch the Sigma Chi Phi colony evolve into what is today the Lambda Iota Chapter of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. The process was not an easy one, but with each bump in the road that they encountered, I watched from the outside as they worked together and grew even stronger as they got closer towards achieving their goals. Proud does not even begin to explain what I am of their achievements and honored is an understatement of how I feel for being selected as the Sweetheart for the coming year. January 22nd, 2011 marks the day of the installation of the Lambda Iota Chapter of Sigma Chi, but these gentlemen have held a place in my heart long before then and I cannot wait to welcome those who too meet the Jordan Standard and will become future members of the chapter. I am positive that these gentlemen have years of successful ventures ahead of them and am enthused to watch, support, and represent them as they continue to grow and succeed.
