FIU Sigma Chi started as an expansion group with 11 men on November 5, 2009. 14 months later, the Lambda Iota Chapter made history by gaining its charter on January 22, 2011 in record speed on campus, formall

Ex-FIU, Columbus wide receiver standout now works with a NASCAR pit-crew
Football was over. Austin Maloney, who had been a star wide receiver at Miami Columbus High and at FIU, was working at Portofino Wine Bank in 2022. “I would deliver liquor on a golf cart,” Maloney said. “It was basically selling wine to people on Star Island and in the Nikki Beach area.” However, Maloney’s life changed forever when he got a call from Nick McBeath, a former teammate at Columbus who had gone on to play college football as a linebacker at Holy Cross. After footb

After a 3 year delay, we were finally able to set sail onboard the Odyssey of the Seas for a week long cruise through the Caribbean. We stopped in Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Coco Cay. In Jamaica, our brother Sam Henriques (2017) planned a private excursion to hang out and swim in a river in Trelawny. During our stop in Coco Cay, we ran into brothers from Orlando, Georgia, & Maine. Excited that we officially started a brand new tradition here at Lambda Iota. No matter how much

After a senior year at Miami Columbus — where he had 59 catches for 939 yards and 11 touchdowns, leading the Explorers to the Class 8A state final — Maloney made no grabs last year as FIU coaches decided to redshirt him. But rather than feel sorry for himself, Maloney put his hard hat on — in this case, an FIU helmet — and went to work. He got stronger, putting 16 pounds of muscle on what is now a 5-11, 190-pound frame, and he made his c
