Philanthropic service is a major part of the Greek lettered community here at Florida International.  We participate in many philanthropic events hosted by both Sororities and Fraternities on campus.  These events allow our Chapter to better our community in both service oriented and fund raising activities as well as a social bonding among our members and the community.  Sigs around the country annually take part in Olsen Day of Service and contribute to our local Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals and internationally to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.  Lambda Iota Sigs perform our own philanthropies such as Adopt-A-Highway cleanups, Beach Clean-ups, mentoring and outreach programs and providing assistance to the elderly community near FIU’s campus.

The Merlin Olsen Day of Service, held annually on Sept. 15, honors the philanthropic spirit of Significant Sig, Order of Constantine Sig, and NFL Hall of Fame member Merlin Olsen, UTAH STATE 1962. The Fraternity encourages its members to honor Olsen by volunteering on this day to improve their communities. Suggested activities include donating blood, volunteering at local schools and cleaning up local public parks.
